The structure of the Journal has seven sections, more specifically: the Introduction, which gives context to and shapes the respective edition as well as highlighting particular aspects that merit the reader’s attention. The Publisher organizes the guest editors who introduce the thematic issue. The Articles section is comprised of a series of texts written on a problem or a specific topic in a general context, and it presents insights or results from research based on a critical or analytical perspective. The Projects section presents a recent sample of architectural works, selected by the Journal’s editorial team, that illustrate the specific topic of each edition. The Research Dossier is different from the Articles section in that it includes texts that present research or reflections addressing different problems relating to the main topic of each edition. The Deuniandes section presents articles, reviews, and information associated with academic activities and research that is undertaken by the Department of Architecture at the Universidad de los Andes. The Photography, art, and illustration section exhibits creative work that addresses spatial or urban topics from disciplines different to architecture.

Dearq journal uses the definition of open access according to BOIA as a reference: Users have the right to "read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles ".

dearq refers to the journal and made by of the School of Architecture at Universidad de los Andes, which finances the publication. It is located in the K Building, offices K-109 and K-115.

The structure of its organization is as follows: a director, an editor, an assistant editor, an editorial committee and a scientific committee who guarantee the quality and relevance of the contents of the journal. The members are evaluated annually in relation to their academic production in other national and international journals.

The articles submitted to the journal must be original and unpublished and must not be in an evaluation process or have an editorial commitment to any other publication. If the manuscript is accepted, the editors expect that its appearance will precede republication of the essay, or any significant part thereof, in another work. If the author of an article wants to include it in another publication, the details of the original publication must be clearly stated by the journal where it will be published and must be authorized by the editor of the journal.

In the same way when the journal is interested in publishing an article that has been previously published it will ask for permission from the editorial charged of the first publication.

The magazine has guidelines of public access for the authors that contain the instructions for the presentation of the articles and reviews, as well as editorial procedures which can be accessed in: http://dearq.uniandes.edu.co/author-guidelines and in all the printed versions of the journal.

Although the articles approved by editorial teams take into account criteria of quality, research rigor and the evaluation by peers. The responsibility for the ideas expressed in the article rest upon the authors, as well as his ethical level.

The authors must specifically make clear that the essay written by them respects the intellectual property rights of third parties. If they use material which is not their property it is their responsibility to obtain due permission for their use in publication, be it illustrations, maps diagrams, photographs, etc.

They also agree to submit their texts to evaluation by two external peers and must take into account their observations as well as those made by the Editorial Committee. These should be noted by the author to make the necessary adjustments. The author, in the time limit indicated by the journal editor, must carry out the modifications and corrections of the manuscript. Once the modified article is submitted, the author will be notified of its complete approval.

When the manuscripts submitted to the journal are not accepted for publication the editor will notify the author in writing, explaining the reasons why it will not be published.

During the editing process, editors may consult the authors to clarify any doubts. Both in the process of evaluation and edition any communication with the authors will be by electronic means preferably.

The editorial committee will reserve rights regarding the publication of the articles and the issue in which they will be published. The publication date will be observed once the author submits the required documentation within the time frame previously indicated. The journal reserves the right to make minor corrections of style.

The authors of approved manuscripts authorize the use of intellectual property rights by signing the ‘Document of authorization of intellectual property rights use’ and the usage of the author’s patrimonial rights (reproduction, public communication, transformation and distribution) to the Universidad de los Andes, in order to include the text in the journal (both printed and electronic versions). In this same document the authors confirm that they are the authors of the text and that intellectual property rights of third parties are respected in the text.

Once an article is received, the editorial team evaluates if it complies with basic requirements of the journal, as well as its relevance to the publication. The editorial team establishes a first filter, taking into account format, quality and relevance, and, after this initial revision, the articles that will start the process or arbitration will be defined. At this point the texts are submitted to two anonymous academic peer reviewers and to the assessment of the editorial team. The result will be communicated to the author within six months of receiving the article. Is for any reason the process exceeds this time the editor will inform the author.

All articles that pass the first revision filter will be submitted to an evaluation process by peer reviewers, who can make suggestions to the author, pointing out possibly significant references to the author which have not been included in the essay. These readers are generally external to the institution and are chosen taking into account they do not have interests that might conflict with the topics they are evaluating. If there are any doubts the evaluator will be replaced.

The journal uses a format that contains questions with carefully defined criteria that must be answered by the evaluator about the article. He or she has the responsibility of accepting or refusing the article or approving modifications to it. During this process the journal will under no circumstances reveal the name of the author of the article being evaluated. In the same way the journal protects the identity of reviewers. During the evaluation both the names of the authors as well as those of the reviewers will not be disclosed.

The editorial board of the journal composed of scientific and editorial teams, is responsible for defining the editorial policies so that the journal sustains the standards of a renowned academic publication. These guidelines are constantly reviewed to improve the journal and fulfill the expectations of the academic community.

Just as the journal expects editorial norms be to be observed, it must also publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed.

The team is responsible for the choice of the best articles to be published after evaluation. This selection will always be based on the quality and relevance of the article, as well as its originality and contributions to the field of architecture. In the same way, when an article is refused, the justification given to the author must take these aspects into consideration.

The editor is responsible for the procedure of all the articles submitted to the magazine, and must develop confidential mechanisms during the evaluation process that leads to its publication or refusal.

When the magazine receives complaints of any kind the team must answer promptly according to the norms established for publication, and in case the complaint is justified it must make sure the necessary investigation is carried out to solve the problem.

When there is a mistake in a published content it must be promptly corrected and announced in the Web site of the journal.

As soon as a volume of the journal is published the editor has the responsibility of its diffusion and distribution to contributors, reviewers and institutions with whom exchange agreements have been established, as well as national and international repositories and indexation systems. In the same way the editor will be in charge of sending the journal to active subscribers.
